About the Mount Shasta Region

Mount Shasta book cover, back side

The Mount Shasta region has a charm and beauty that lures and inspires visitors and residents alike. History, geography, the majestic splendors of the volcano, and people sculpt this vibrant landscape.

Set in one of the most spectacular parts of California, this area possesses a collection of charming, historic communities with varied pasts and futures. Many early settlers were vigorous individuals of health, vitality, generosity, and spirit. Current residents add to the growing history, passing on their stories as a legacy for generations to come.

This book, however, is far more than history alone. The text seeks to describe the past, while examining the geography that influenced the development of the settlements, and to expose the factors that sculpt the current landscape. Technologies and resources have the ability to create, sustain, and destroy communities. Transportation routes have and will continue to define the economic success of these towns. The Historical Geography of the Mount Shasta Region is then a synopsis of location and a history intertwined. This book illustrates a chronological and locational synthesis to tell this and future generations about this remote and beautiful part of California
